Tours of the historic 800 Chestnut Street campus can be scheduled by appointment Monday through Saturday from 9am-4pm and take about one hour. On the tour, you will learn the history of SFAI, its contributions to modern and contemporary art, and the ways in which our current programs reflect upon, continue, and expand the SFAI tradition. You will also visit the Diego Rivera Gallery, which houses Rivera’s famous mural The Making of a Fresco Showing the Building of a City. Finally, throughout the tour, you will experience one of San Francisco’s most noted architectural achievments, the SFAI campus itself: the original structure, designed and built in 1926 by James Bakewell and Arthur Brown, and the addition of 1969, designed by Paffard Keatinge-Clay. We welcome your visit.
Tours of SFAI’s Third Street Graduate Facility and the residence hall, as well as portfolio reviews, are by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, please contact us at 800 345 SFAI or via e-mail at admissions@sfai.edu.
