By providing a variety of resources and learning opportunities, the staff and student leaders of the Student Affairs Office help students to realize their potential as artists and foster their growth as engaged and responsible members of local, national, and global artistic and cultural communities. The Student Affairs Office coordinates, among many other activities and events, the following services and programs: (1) career resources, including individual career counseling, internship and job listings, and residency and grant information; (2) campus life activities and events, including orientation and commencement; (3) disability services; (4) Student Union; (5) residential life and housing; (6) personal counseling; (7) health insurance; (8) international student services and off-campus programs; and (9) leadership programs.

Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students

Dean Carlisle came to SFAI in July 2008 from UCLA, where he served as associate dean of students. He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and master's degree in higher education administration from the University of Alabama and a doctor of jurisprudence from Southwestern University School of Law. He has been published numerous times and has presented at several conferences. He enjoys traveling, camping, and fishing.

Megann joined SFAI in October 2008, after completing her MFA in Creative Writing at Emerson College. Her previous experience includes teaching in a first-year writing program, facilitating first-year learning communities, and working in residence life. She is currently at work on her first book, a collection of short stories.

Marina received an MSW from Smith College School for Social Work and completed a fellowship in College Mental Health from Harvard University. She has 15 years experience working in the mental health field and has worked as a therapist at Pratt Institute and Sarah Lawrence College. As field faculty, she supervises social work interns from UC Berkeley and Smith.

Assistant Director of Student Life for International Student Affairs

Shannon joined SFAI in August 2009 from UC Berkeley and holds a master's degree in international education from the SIT Graduate Institute. She discovered her love for travel and exploring other cultures during college and has since lived in Italy and England and spent four months traveling around the world. Shannon also enjoys cooking, hiking, and trying new SF restaurants.

Assistant Director of Student Life for Housing and Residential Life

Michael came to SFAI in January 2009 from Binghamton University, where he served as a resident director. He has a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Arizona and a master's degree in educational leadership from San Diego State University. Prior to getting his master's degree, Michael worked as a bank manager and still enjoys helping students manage their finances.
